Bernstein & Friends with Guest Vocalist Robbie Madison (Past Concert)

  • Rose Maree Myers Theatre for Performing Arts, School of the Arts 5109 West Enterprise Street North Charleston, SC, 29405 United States (map)

“Bernstein and Friends” celebrates the musical legacy of one of America’s greatest composers, performers and conductors, Leonard Bernstein.  We are excited to present guest vocalist Charleston-native Robbie Madison singing A Simple Song.

The concert will feature selections from his vast catalogue of musicals and symphonic works. It will also present representative works from composers who influenced him, including George Gershwin and Aaron Copland, and compositions by friends and contemporaries, including Hershey Kay, Leroy Anderson, and Elmer Bernstein.  Guest soloist is Carrie Bates, trombonist.

Celebrating its 40th year, the Charleston Concert Band continues its mission of presenting America’s musical heritage to the South Carolina Lowcountry.  The CCB is conducted by Basil Kerr and associate conductor Susan DuPuis.

The Leonard Bernstein Office announced “Leonard Bernstein at 100,” a two-year global celebration of the life and career of the 20th-century cultural giant, featuring more than 2,500 events on six continents. This concert is part of that celebration.
