The Charleston Concert Band, representing adult volunteer musicians from across the Lowcountry, presents this program as part of the SC250 Charleston celebration. The concert features music representing the events and emotions of the American Revolution, and especially those centered around the Battle of Ft. Sullivan. The highlight of the program is the World Premiere of an original composition by nationally known composer Jay Bocook. This new work features music of the period and incorporates them with original music to evoke the feelings, hopes and fears of the defenders of the little palmetto fort, as well as the citizens of Charleston, who witnessed the battle from the city waterfront. The audience will be treated to an emotionally powerful musical experience.

From Ballet to Broadway, The Charleston Concert Band’s spring concert, “Song and Dance”, features music that’s sure to get your feet tapping and your heart beating faster! You’ll be treated to great Broadway classics from George Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Bernstein and more. You’ll also experience great ballet and dance sequences from classical composers like Tchaikovsky and Smetana, and of course, a few surprises to delight your ears!

Ring in the holiday season with beautiful music! Join the Charleston Concert Band on Tuesday, December 16, 7:30pm for the band’s 46th annual Holiday Concert at the Summerall Chapel on the Citadel campus. Featuring holiday favorites performed by the band, and featuring vocalist Courtney Williams, the “Voice of the Navy”, this has become one of the “must see” concerts of the season!

In addition to a beautiful and inspiring program, we will be taking donations for the Lowcountry Food Bank, and The Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank (disposable diapers and wipes accepted). Last year both organizations received a huge amount of donations thanks to YOU, our audience members. We want to continue this holiday tradition of generosity and sharing with those in need. If you have friends who plan to attend the concert, spread the word about the donations.

Everyone talks about the weather, especially in the Lowcountry! Rain, wind, thunder and lightning, but also beautiful sunrises and gentle breezes are all part of life here. The Charleston Concert Band will take the listener through all the beauty and challenges of the weather in the Charleston area. And this program is just like Charleston weather. If you don’t like it, wait five minutes! We’re sure you’ll hear something that brightens your day, just like the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that make this place so special. The concert will be held in the beautiful Rose Maree Myers Theater at the Charleston School of the Arts in North Charleston. Save the date!
